More Information
The Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area is just that, a wilderness area. This trip will require some roughing it as we camp beside the lakes, filter our own water, and carry all our gear with us.
We need to enter the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area on September 1st. The Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area can only be accessed with a permit, this restricts the number of people that can enter at any given time. Each permit grants you entrance on a particular date. If you miss the date, you can’t enter. Our permit allows us to enter on September 1st, so it is critical that we are ready to go on that date.
You can fly into Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. If you are flying in, please make your flight in on Thursday, August 31st, this way, if there are delays you can still make it in time to join us. We will plan to do an airport pick up in the late afternoon or evening and will have a place for you to stay. It is close to a five hour drive from the airport to the Boundary Waters, so it would not work to fly in on the 1st.
If you are driving in, we can coordinate whether you meet up with us early on Friday, September 1st or late in the day on August 31st. Our plan will be to arrive at the Boundary Waters around noon on the 1st.
We plan to leave the Boundary Waters on the 3rd by it will be late in the day before we are out and back down toward the twin cities. You can plan to fly or drive out the morning of the 4th. If you are driving, you could also leave the evening of the 3rd.
